Chapter 6. How to Format Cells

After creating a spreadsheet, you may format it to get a readable and professional-looking document. Excel offers various methods for formatting cells, some of which will be discussed in this chapter. To help you master the basics of Excel in 2 weeks, this eBook will discuss the most popular formats today.

The HOME Ribbon

You can access all of the formatting options by clicking on HOME. The formatting groups (see screenshot below) contain some of the most useful formats in Excel.

How to Change the Font

1. Highlight the cell/s you wish to work on.

2. Click on the drop-down arrow right beside the current font’s name. Excel will display all of the available fonts in alphabetical order.

3. Choose the font that you want to use and click on it. The letters and numbers within the highlighted cells will reflect the change.

How to Change the Font Size

1. Highlight the cell\s you need to format.

2. Click on the text box for Font Size.

3. Enter your preferred font size.

Important Note: You may click on the drop-down arrow of the Font Size menu. Then, choose the correct font size from the list.

How to Apply BOLD, ITALIC, or UNDERLINE

1. Select the cells you like to format.

2. Click on B, U, or I, depending on what you want to do.

1. B– This option makes characters bold.

2. I– This option italicizes characters.

3. U - Use this option to underline characters.
